Tools for your own server

Connect your automation client to the private Chromium endpoint.

CDP browser endpoint

Connect a compatible client to Chromium CDP WebSocket and configure your scripts. A running service does not include completed jobs.

Private token access

Use SSH forwarding first. A generated private token protects the service and must be supplied to requests. Keep it secret and read the installed access guide.

Small session workload

Start with one concurrent session and a queue of two. Helper /docs and /debugger interfaces are available; this is not a desktop or VNC service, and session profiles are temporary.

Choose a starting configuration

OS
Ubuntu 24.04, amd64.
Resources
Start with 2 vCPU, 4 GB RAM and 50 GB NVMe. The 4 GB template floor is not a universal software minimum; increase capacity for heavier work.
Access
Forward localhost:3000 over SSH. Read the token privately from /opt/lightnode-browserless/credentials.txt, which only root can read.
Costs
Browserless uses SSPL 1.0 or a commercial license. Review your use case; a commercial license is not included in VPS billing.

Set up your application

  1. In the application selector, choose this application, Latest, Ubuntu 24.04 and at least 4 GB RAM.
  2. Wait for installation, connect by SSH and read the access guide.
  3. Forward localhost:3000 over SSH. Read the token privately from /opt/lightnode-browserless/credentials.txt, which only root can read. Connect a compatible CDP client or open the documented helper interface.
  4. Run a small authorized browser task, check session limits and license needs, and protect access before exposing any endpoint.

Questions about this VPS

  • First installation uses official Chromium latest, which follows upstream main and does not promise a stable release. Restarts retain the installed image and token; review changes before manual upgrades.
  • No. Browserless offers SSPL 1.0 or commercial licensing. Upstream requires a commercial license for proprietary commercial applications or closed-source CI. Confirm your use case; license fees are separate from VPS billing.
  • Restarts keep the recorded image, token and configuration. Back up the installation directory before a manual upgrade and review upstream instructions. Browser sessions are temporary; this template does not persist browser profiles. Restarts do not update the image.
