Tools for your own server

A publishing application with persistent content and a separate database.

Publishing with Ghost

Create pages and posts, choose a theme, and organize your publication. The installation starts with a private site so you can finish setup before publishing it.

A MySQL-backed publication

Ghost stores its database in MySQL 8, the supported production database. Keep both the database and content files in your backup plan. A content export alone does not cover uploaded media.

Memberships with your accounts

Configure the services your publication needs. Transactional SMTP, newsletter delivery, and payment processing require your own provider accounts and settings. These services are not bundled into the VPS price.

Questions about this VPS

  • Latest selects the application release at first installation. Databases use compatible versions. Restarts retain installed software and data.
  • You must configure external services. Transactional messages need SMTP, and Ghost newsletters require a supported bulk-mail service rather than ordinary SMTP. Paid subscriptions need your payment account. The initial template has no working external email service, payment account or public HTTPS domain.
  • Back up credentials and persistent data before upgrading. Follow upstream migration instructions. Restarting preserves the installed version and configuration.
