Prepare your Paperclip instance

Server
Choose Ubuntu 24.04 and Latest. The template suggests 2 vCPU, 4 GB RAM, and 50 GB disk. Choose 8 GB for heavier workloads.
SSH access
Read the installation README through SSH and forward local port 3100. The authenticated private dashboard binds to 127.0.0.1 by default.
Owner and providers
Sign in and claim the first owner. Supply customer provider accounts or API keys before agent work. Model usage is billed separately.
Persistent data
Preserve embedded PostgreSQL, uploads, workspaces, and the secrets master key. Back up root-only environment and credential files with the application data.

Set up Paperclip

  1. In the LightNode console, select Paperclip, Latest, and Ubuntu 24.04. Choose at least 2 vCPU, 4 GB RAM, and 50 GB disk.
  2. Await first-boot installation. Check the status and instructions available for your instance.
  3. Connect through SSH and read the installation README. Follow its tunnel instructions to open the authenticated dashboard on local port 3100.
  4. Sign in, claim the first owner, and configure your company and agents. Add customer provider credentials before starting agent work.

Paperclip questions

  • The instance still needs its first administrator. Access the private dashboard through SSH, sign in, and claim ownership. Then configure your company, agents, and provider credentials.
  • Local adapter work executes inside the application container. Your configured model provider generates responses and bills usage separately. No model-provider account or credits are included with the VPS.
  • Save embedded PostgreSQL data, uploads, workspaces, root-only environment files, and the secrets master key. Database backups without that key cannot decrypt stored credentials. Read the official instructions before a manual upgrade.

Deploy Paperclip

Choose Paperclip in the application selector and complete server setup.
