The API starts at localhost:7700. Use an SSH tunnel; configure your own domain and HTTPS proxy before public access.
Costs
Community Edition uses the MIT license. VPS, domains and optional external model services have separate costs.

Set up your application

  1. Choose Meilisearch, Latest, Ubuntu 24.04 and at least 2 vCPU with 4 GB RAM.
  2. Wait for first-boot installation. Connect by SSH and read the server access guide.
  3. Forward port 7700 over SSH. Read the generated master key privately and create index-restricted search keys.
  4. Add documents, wait for indexing tasks, configure filters and test search. Keep administrative keys on your backend.

Questions about this VPS

  • First installation selects the current official release channel. A restart keeps the installed version. Back up data and review upstream changes before a manual upgrade.
  • This installs MIT Community Edition. Enterprise sharding, a managed cloud service and an embedding model are not included. Configure optional providers separately.
  • The installed image, keys and indexes remain. Keep consistent dumps or snapshots and credentials. Upgrades require backups and the supported upstream procedure.
