Tools for your own server
Work with server files without copying the project to every device.
Browser editor
Use the code-server editor in a browser. The project runs a VS Code-based editor; available extensions differ from Microsoft's marketplace.
Server terminal
Run commands inside the application container as UID 1000. No VPS sudo or host Docker access is provided.
Persistent workspace
Keep project files on persistent server storage. Use Git and backups for your work; editor access does not supply a backup service.

Choose a starting configuration
- OS
- Ubuntu 24.04, amd64.
- Resources
- Start with 2 vCPU, 4 GB RAM and 50 GB NVMe. This is the template floor. Increase capacity for heavier work.
- Access
- Use SSH forwarding to localhost:8080. Keep this initial service private.
- Costs
- Software license terms apply. VPS billing, domains, and external services are separate.
Set up your application
- Choose this application, Latest, Ubuntu 24.04, and a plan with at least 4 GB RAM.
- Wait for first-boot installation. Connect by SSH and read the server access guide.
- Open the SSH tunnel and sign in with the privately generated password described in the access guide.
- Open a test project and check the container terminal. Add the dependencies your project needs and back up workspace files before daily use.
Questions about this VPS
- First installation selects the current official release channel. A restart keeps the installed version. Back up data and review upstream changes before a manual upgrade.
- No. This is a CPU VPS editor. GPU workloads are outside this template, and code-server uses its supported extension sources. Review each extension's availability and license.
- Restarts retain the installed version and data. Back up configuration, credentials, and persistent data before manual upgrades. A restart does not upgrade the application.
