What you can run

Start with a file-sharing service and size your storage around the files you actually keep.

File sync and sharing

Synchronize files with supported clients and share them using access controls and link settings.

WebDAV access

Connect compatible tools through WebDAV to read and manage files on your server.

Separate persistent storage

Keep application files and PostgreSQL data in separate persistent directories. Redis supports the application's cache and locking configuration.

Plan your server

System
Choose Ubuntu 24.04 amd64 for the documented setup.
Starting resources
This installation template requires at least 4 GB RAM. Start with 2 vCPU and 50 GB storage, then add capacity for your workload. These are template requirements and suggestions, not the upstream software minimum.
SSH access
Read the installation README and its referenced root-only credential file through SSH. Keep credentials private.
Public access
Initial access uses trusted localhost through the documented SSH tunnel. Configure public HTTPS and trusted_domains for the actual customer hostname before opening a public URL.

Start your installation

  1. Select Nextcloud, Latest and Ubuntu 24.04, then choose a plan with at least 4 GB RAM.
  2. Wait for first-boot installation to finish. Check its status through SSH using the README.
  3. Follow the README's SSH instructions and read referenced root-only credentials.
  4. Complete initial setup, then configure the public domain and backups as needed.

Questions about your VPS

  • The template uses the official Nextcloud latest image with PostgreSQL and Redis. Collabora and the high-performance Nextcloud Talk backend require separate installation and resources.
  • Read the README through SSH to locate the generated administrator credentials in their root-only file. Keep these credentials when you repeat setup.
  • Persistent directories retain files and database state during normal restarts. Back up both, monitor free space and follow the README for manual upgrades. Persistent storage is not automatic backup.

Deploy application

Choose the application and server options in the LightNode console.
